Solar Forecast Now Available on Android: Your Solar Data in Your Pocket

Introduction
We've had plenty of requests for it, and we're pleased to announce that Solar Forecast is now available as a native Android app. You can download it today from the Google Play Store and take your solar forecasts, live monitoring, and savings tracking with you wherever you go.
The app gives you the same powerful forecasting and monitoring tools you're used to on the web, optimised for your Android phone or tablet. And if you're already a Solar Forecast user, your account works seamlessly across both platforms. Premium subscribers get all their benefits on mobile just as they do on the web.

Why a Native Android App?
Whilst our web app has always been mobile-friendly, a dedicated Android app brings several advantages. It's faster to open, feels more natural on your phone, and integrates better with Android's notification system. You can check tomorrow's forecast whilst you're out, monitor your live generation from the garden, or adjust your settings without needing to open a browser.
For many users, their phone is simply more convenient than a laptop or desktop. When you're deciding whether to put the washing machine on now or wait until lunchtime, you want that information quickly. A native app makes that faster and easier.
What You Get
The Android app includes everything from the web version. You get accurate 3-day forecasts on the free tier, or 14-day forecasts with premium. Hourly breakdowns help you plan when to run appliances or charge your EV. Live inverter monitoring shows your current generation, battery status, and consumption in real time.
Your settings sync automatically. Change your system configuration on the web, and it appears instantly on your phone. Update your tariff rates on mobile, and they're there when you next log in on desktop. It's the same account, the same data, working across whichever device you prefer.
Premium subscribers have access to all their features on mobile. Advanced forecasts, extended historical data, multiple locations if you've set them up, all available on your phone. There's no separate mobile subscription or additional cost. One account, one subscription, works everywhere.
Getting Started
Download the app from the [Google Play Store](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.solarforecast.app&pcampaignid=web_share) and log in with your existing Solar Forecast account. If you don't have an account yet, you can create one directly in the app and start using the free tier immediately.
Everything from your web account carries over. Your system settings, tariff information, historical data, and premium subscription (if you have one) all work straight away. There's nothing extra to configure unless you want to.
If you're new to Solar Forecast, the app walks you through setting up your system. Enter your panel capacity, roof direction, and location, and you'll have accurate forecasts within minutes. You can refine the details later, but the basics are enough to get useful predictions immediately.
Premium Benefits Work Everywhere
One question we've had is whether premium subscriptions work on both web and mobile. The answer is yes, absolutely. Your premium subscription is tied to your account, not to a specific device or platform.
Subscribe on the web and you immediately get premium features in the Android app. Subscribe through the Android app and you get the same access on the web. Cancel your subscription and it stops working on both. It's straightforward and works exactly as you'd expect.
This means you can check your 14-day forecast on your phone in the morning, review hourly breakdowns on your desktop whilst planning the week, and monitor live generation on your tablet from the sofa. Same account, same premium benefits, across all your devices.
What's Next
The Android app is the first step in expanding beyond the web. We're gathering feedback from early users and will continue improving the mobile experience based on what you tell us. If there are features you'd like to see or improvements that would make the app more useful, we'd like to hear about them.
We're also working on additional features that make particular sense on mobile. Push notifications for important solar events, widgets for your home screen, and faster access to frequently used information are all on the list. The app will keep improving, just as the web version has since we launched.
For those asking about iOS, we're considering it. The decision will partly depend on how many people use the Android app and what feedback we receive. If there's strong demand for an iPhone version, it becomes a higher priority. Let us know if that matters to you.
The Usual Caveats
The app is new, which means there will likely be some rough edges. We've tested it thoroughly, but nothing catches everything until it's out in the real world with thousands of users doing things in ways you never anticipated.
If you encounter bugs, oddities, or features that don't work quite right, please let us know through the feedback option in the app or via our [website](http://solarforecast.co.uk/feedback). We're monitoring closely and will fix issues as they're reported.
The app requires Android 8.0 or later. Most phones from the last five or six years should work fine, but very old devices might not be compatible. If you're on an older version of Android, the web app remains fully functional on mobile browsers as an alternative.
A Practical Tool for Daily Use
Solar forecasting is most useful when you check it regularly and plan around it. Having the app on your phone makes that easier. Check the forecast on Tuesday evening to decide whether to charge your battery overnight. Glance at today's generation during lunch to see whether this afternoon will be better for running the tumble dryer. Monitor your live consumption to understand where your electricity is actually going.
These small decisions, made consistently over time, add up to meaningful savings on your electricity bills. The Android app makes them more convenient, which makes you more likely to do them, which improves your results.
It's a tool, and like any tool, it's only useful if you actually use it. Having it in your pocket rather than on your desktop increases the chances you'll check it when it matters.
